WHAT ROLE DOES AN OFFICE JUNIOR HAVE?
An Office Junior position gives the right candidate a fantastic opportunity to learn the ropes in a professional environment, whilst at the same time benefits a business by providing crucial support with overflow administrative tasks. A Junior will likely assist across the breadth of administrative support, covering Reception, Accounts Assistant duties, Team Assistant responsibilities and general office maintenance.
The Office Junior will also assist with some facilities management such as sorting, receiving, sending mail and organising couriers, as well as act as the go-to person for covering leave of absences by any of the secretarial or support staff. A Junior will need to be mentored by a more senior team member in the first phase of their employment, however a strong Office Junior will learn quickly and progress their career in the business accordingly.
RECRUITING AN OFFICE JUNIOR
Tiger undertake a thorough assessment of all candidates and Office Juniors are no exception. We expect our Office Juniors to have a little work experience in a professional environment, with their most significant attribute being motivation, drive and willingness to learn.
At interview stage we will assess their verbal and written communication skills, ask some situational questions and get an overall feel for their ambitions and interests. We also assess MS Office skills as standard and expect Juniors not long out of the education system to have a reasonably high literacy with these products.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM A GOOD OFFICE JUNIOR CANDIDATE?
A strong Office Junior candidate will be incredibly enthusiastic about their new position with you (which may also be their first placement in a professional setting). They will have a keen willingness to learn and seek to understand the overall business function and their role within it.
A Junior will add tremendous value to the office, not least their picking up overflow tasks from other members of the business support team. Office Juniors will want to have their performance measured and will appreciate regular feedback around areas for improvement. They’ll be driven to succeed, and look for opportunities to progress within the business support team over time.
