David Morel, MD at Tiger Recruitment, has been quoted in the press commentating on the job market in London and advising on salary levels for the secretarial market. In Wednesday’s edition of the ‘London Evening Standard’ David highlighted that small and medium size businesses in the private sector are the ones that are contributing to the recent increase in job vacancies. David predicts that the permanent recruitment market will continue to improve this year and return to 2011 levels. However, it will be at least a further 12 months until it returns to 2009/2010 levels.
2013 will remain a Client led market, but there will always be a demand for good quality Candidates. Due to the adverse market conditions in 2012, quality Candidate flow was slow for most of the year. Candidates were remaining in jobs they wanted to leave and employers weren’t hiring to the same capacity as the previous year. With the market improving, employers and job seekers are more optimistic, which in part is the reason we are seeing such a big increase in the quality of Candidates coming back on to the market in 2013.
Our recent salary survey shows that salary levels for certain positions fell in 2012. Top end of the PA salary range fell to £43K for professional services and £38K for creative. Tiger is confident that these have reached rock bottom.
The temporary market flourished last summer and has continued in the New Year, ending up being the busiest it has been since 2007. In addition, we have noticed a higher proportion of employers hiring on a temp-to-perm basis. Through a greater influx of quality Candidates and increased optimism in the market, we expect this to drop throughout the year and for Client’s to rely on the agency’s refund guarantee instead, and hire permanently from the outset.
